Deep Purple tour dates postponed as singer Ian Gillan is hospitalized
Urgent medical care for the frontman forced the group to pull out of scheduled arena shows while fans await updates on remaining stops.
Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan has been hospitalized following a sudden medical emergency, prompting the veteran English rock band to postpone upcoming concerts on their European tour.
The group announced the news on Saturday, October 31, across their official social media channels, confirming that shows in Germany would not proceed as planned. As reported by Rolling Stone and Billboard, the 81-year-old vocalist required immediate medical care ahead of the band’s scheduled weekend appearances.
The band’s official statement
Deep Purple released a statement on their official Facebook and Instagram pages detailing the abrupt halt to their live schedule.
“With great disappointment, Deep Purple must announce that they are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at the QI Arena (Leipzig) and tomorrow evening at the Sporthalle (Hamburg),” the band said. “This comes as a result of a medical emergency involving Ian Gillan, which has resulted in his current hospitalisation.”
The group acknowledged the short notice for attendees traveling to the venues. “We understand that this announcement comes at short notice and share the disappointment of all our wonderful fans that we are unable to perform in Leipzig and Hamburg,” the statement continued. “Deep Purple and their team are focused on finding a suitable time to reschedule both these shows. All tickets purchased will be valid for the rescheduled dates.”
In a concise post shared on X, the band added: “Deep Purple regret to announce that tonight’s Leipzig and tomorrow’s Hamburg shows cannot go ahead due to a medical emergency involving Ian Gillan, who is currently hospitalised. We apologise to our fans.”
Tour schedule and health background
The postponed performances were part of the German leg of Deep Purple’s Splat World Tour. According to Blabbermouth.net and American Songwriter, the tour launched in support of the band’s album Splat, which was released in July 2026.
Gillan, who was born on August 19, 1945, first joined Deep Purple in 1969. In a November 2025 interview with Uncut, covered by Parade and American Songwriter, the singer reflected on his health and future retirement considerations. At the time, Gillan explained that he had only 30 percent vision remaining and noted that he would step away from performing if he ever lacked the physical strength required for the stage.
What we know and fan reaction
Following the announcement, fans flooded Deep Purple’s official social media posts with messages of support and well-wishes for the singer, as reported by The Standard.
The band has not disclosed the underlying cause of Gillan’s hospitalization or specified his current prognosis. It remains unconfirmed how long the singer will remain in hospital care. Deep Purple have also not yet announced the rescheduled dates for Leipzig and Hamburg, or confirmed whether their remaining tour stops planned across Europe and the UK for November 2026 will go ahead as scheduled.
