Halle Berry reacts after Zendaya brings back her 2000 X-Men premiere look
Following a subtle Emmy tribute in September, the actress took on an archival Lanvin bikini set and drew an immediate public nod from the icon.
Zendaya brought back one of the most recognizable red-carpet ensembles of the early 2000s for Halloween, earning instant praise from Halle Berry herself. Celebrity stylist Law Roach shared photos and video of the actress on Instagram on Saturday, October 31, showing Zendaya recreating Berry’s outfit from the July 2000 premiere of X-Men in New York.
Halle Berry reacts on social media
Berry quickly showed her support on Saturday by leaving a string of red heart emojis in the comment section of Roach’s Instagram post. According to reports from Parade, Just Jared, and Men’s Journal, the Oscar winner also reposted side-by-side comparison images of Zendaya and herself wearing the look on her Instagram Stories.
Inside the archival Lanvin look
Roach explained the concept behind the Halloween tribute in his caption, writing, “Zendaya channeling Halle Berry wearing @lanvin Fall 2000” on Instagram. He also credited Lanvin artistic director Peter Copping and Alix Long with helping source the archival pieces.
As reported by Men’s Journal, Parade, and Albawaba, the archival outfit was a vintage Lanvin Fall 2000 two-piece set. The design featured a yellow, brown, and white geometric-print triangle string bikini top paired with matching low-rise flared trousers, styled with pointed-toe heels and tinted sunglasses to match Berry’s original look.
From Ellis Island to the red carpet
Berry originally wore the Lanvin bikini top and trouser set to the premiere of X-Men on Ellis Island in New York in July 2000, where she celebrated her starring role as the mutant superhero Storm, according to Men’s Journal and ComicBasics.
The Halloween tribute also follows another recent fashion nod between the two stars. At the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards in September 2026 in Los Angeles, Zendaya debuted a short pixie haircut while wearing a custom Prada dress inspired by Berry’s crystal-embellished gown from the 2002 premiere of Die Another Day, according to reports from Men’s Journal, ComicBasics, and Rolling Out.
What we know and what remains unconfirmed
While some online descriptions suggested Zendaya recreated a sheer studded outfit from the 2000 X-Men premiere, the archival look was actually the printed geometric string bikini top and trousers from Lanvin Fall 2000. Sheer and crystal-embellished dresses were instead associated with Berry’s 2002 Die Another Day red-carpet appearance.
According to Rolling Out, neither star has released an interview or formal public statement regarding the Halloween tribute beyond Berry’s emojis and Instagram Stories reposts. It also remains unknown whether Zendaya initially adopted her pixie haircut in September with this Halloween costume in mind, or whether she wore the ensemble to a private gathering beyond the photoshoot.
