The Bachelor season 30 premiere date upends the show’s weekly routine

After pulling an entire season right before airtime, network bosses placed the flagship series into a slot it has never occupied in over two decades.

ABC officially announced on Friday, November 6, that The Bachelor will return for its milestone 30th season on Sunday, March 21, 2027, at 8:00 p.m. ET. The announcement, released as part of the network’s midseason broadcast schedule, shifts the long-running dating franchise to Sunday nights for the first time.

“The Bachelor returns for Season 30 Sunday, March 21, at 8 p.m., followed by ‘What Would You Do?’ at 10 p.m.,” ABC confirmed in its official press release.

An unprecedented pause for Bachelor Nation

The return date brings an end to an unprecedented hiatus across the entire franchise. For the first time since the original series debuted in 2002, an entire calendar year passed in 2026 without any Bachelor franchise programming on the air, as reported by TV Insider and Parade.

The extended break followed the abrupt cancellation of The Bachelorette Season 22 in March 2026. ABC had cast Taylor Frankie Paul, known from the first season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives in 2024, as the lead in September 2025, marking the first time the franchise picked a star outside its alumni network. Disney Entertainment Television cancelled the season on March 19, 2026, just three days before it was set to air, after 2023 video footage surfaced showing a domestic altercation between Paul and her ex-partner Dakota Mortensen.

“In light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of The Bachelorette at this time, and our focus is on supporting the family,” a Disney Entertainment Television spokesperson said in a media statement at the time.

Following that decision, the network put the broader franchise on hold, skipping both a summer run of Bachelor in Paradise in 2026 and any fall spinoffs such as The Golden Bachelor or The Golden Bachelorette.

Rebuilding the franchise for 2027

ABC had already renewed The Bachelor for Season 30 back in June 2025, naming Scott Teti as showrunner following the March 2025 exits of Claire Freeland and Bennett Graebner. Teti previously served as showrunner on Bachelor in Paradise Season 10 in 2025.

Executives maintained that the format would benefit from deliberate planning rather than a rushed turnaround. Speaking to Variety and TV Insider in April 2026, Rob Mills, Executive Vice President of Unscripted and Alternative Entertainment at Walt Disney Television, addressed why the network took its time setting the return.

“No, we don’t need to. We have time. It won’t air until midseason next year. We want to get it right, and we’re looking at all sorts of options and having a lot of conversations about that,” Mills said.

In a statement reported by Deadline and TV Insider on November 6, Mills praised the enduring strength of the show while looking ahead to 2027. “The Bachelor is almost a perfect format, and it is really powerful. It’s over two decades old, and it’s seen really good days and really bad days. But it’s always had a lot of resilience, especially when the people making it really, really care about it, because that fan base also really cares about it,” Mills said. “However, The Bachelor comes back next year, it will be done with a lot of thoughtfulness and care. I do think better days are ahead for the franchise.”

What comes next for season 30

The last flagship season to air was The Bachelor Season 29 in 2025, starring Grant Ellis. That season wrapped on March 24, 2025, with Ellis proposing to Juliana Pasquarosa, though the couple announced their breakup three months later in June 2025.

ABC has not yet chosen or announced who will lead Season 30 in 2027. The network has also not officially confirmed whether host Jesse Palmer will return, though industry outlets expect him back. In August 2026, podcast host Reality Steve reported that applicants were told filming would begin in January 2027, creating a tighter post-production window ahead of the March premiere.
