Paris Hilton is setting the record straight after social media users accused her of stealing the spotlight from her children during an elaborate family Halloween photo shoot. Responding on Instagram on October 28, the businesswoman clarified that her 2-year-old daughter London chose her own costume, following days of negative comments online.

The themed portraits, which Hilton published on October 26, featured her dressed as Belle in a custom gown designed by Danyul Brown. Her husband, Carter Reum, appeared alongside her as the Beast, while their 3-year-old son Phoenix dressed as Lumière and daughter London appeared as the teacup Chip, according to Us Weekly and Bored Panda.

What she said about her daughter’s costume

After online commentators argued that Hilton took the starring princess role and relegated her toddler daughter to a teacup, Hilton stepped into the comment section to shut down the accusations.

“Beauty and the Beast is one of their favorite movies,” Hilton wrote in an Instagram comment. She added: “London said she wanted to dress up as Chip. She said it was her favorite character in the movie.”

How critics and fans reacted

The family portraits quickly sparked debate across X and Instagram. Some users labeled the concept self-absorbed, claiming Hilton was treating her children like props rather than letting them be the center of attention on Halloween. On X, user @submarinr1 wrote, “Stealing spotlight from kids is next level narcissistic.”

Supporters swiftly pushed back against the criticism, arguing that parents are allowed to have fun and dress up with their families. Many pointed out that Belle and the Beast are the central romantic pair, making them the natural choice for Hilton and Reum.

A busy week of Halloween looks

When Hilton first shared the images on October 26, she wrote in the caption, “My life is a fairytale, and the magic never ends.”

The Disney-themed setup was not her only costume of the season. Earlier in the week of October 25, Hilton unveiled a solo tribute to Britney Spears, recreating the singer’s iconic 2001 MTV Video Music Awards performance of “I’m a Slave 4 U” while posing with a real yellow snake.

Hilton and Reum welcomed their son Phoenix in January 2023 and daughter London in late 2023. It remains unknown whether the family plans to wear additional costumes when Halloween arrives on October 31.
