Reba McEntire son Shelby Blackstock baby news follows a rough first week
The couple kept the birth secret for weeks after facing an unexpected phototherapy hurdle and years of fertility struggles.
Racing driver Shelby Blackstock and his wife, Marissa Blackstock, have welcomed their first child together, introducing a baby boy named Shelby Archer McEntire Blackstock. The arrival officially makes country music superstar Reba McEntire a grandmother, marking her first biological grandchild.
The couple announced the news on Instagram Stories on Wednesday, October 21, revealing that their son, whom they plan to call Archie, arrived a few weeks before they decided to share the update publicly. Reports from Us Weekly and Hello! confirmed that the new parents chose to keep the initial weeks private so they could settle into family life at home.
A challenging first week
Alongside the joyous announcement, the couple revealed that their son faced early health obstacles. Photos shared on social media showed the newborn undergoing phototherapy under a bilirubin light during his initial days.
Shelby reflected on the rocky start while praising his son’s spirit. “He had a rough first week, but at least he had the look down,” he shared on Instagram Stories.
The couple opted to hold back on sharing the news until they had settled into a steady routine. “We’ve been taking these first few weeks just for us, and there’s nowhere else we’d rather be,” Shelby wrote.
The long road to parenthood
The birth marks a meaningful milestone for the couple following a three-year fertility journey. The pair met on Tinder in 2014, began dating in 2016, and tied the knot at Walt Disney World in February 2022, as reported by People.
Over the past three years, the couple attempted to conceive through natural methods, medicated cycles, and in vitro fertilization. They also weathered heartbreak along the way, having experienced a pregnancy loss in December 2025.
Reflecting on that difficult road, they shared an emotional message with their announcement: “After everything it took to get here, we finally get to call ourselves Mom and Dad.”
Reba enters her grandmother era
Shelby is the only biological child of Reba McEntire and her former husband Narvel Blackstock, who were married from 1989 to 2015. McEntire previously expressed her excitement over the upcoming addition during a music-themed “Welcome to the World Tour” baby shower hosted in Nashville in July 2026.
At that event, where the name Archer was first unveiled to loved ones, the country icon signed a guest record plaque with the message “We’re gonna have so much fun!” and signed off as “Grandma Reba.”
As of Wednesday evening, McEntire had not yet issued an immediate public comment on social media regarding the arrival post. The couple has also not disclosed the exact calendar date of their son’s birth or specific medical details regarding his hospital care beyond the visible light therapy.
