English actress and comedian Miranda Hart became the victim murdered on episode 8 of series 2 of BBC One’s The Celebrity Traitors, bringing an end to her run in the Scottish castle during the broadcast on Friday, October 23.

Traitor trio Maya Jama, James Acaster and King Kenny convened in the turret to deliver the blow. The group faced a decision between three unshielded Faithfuls, weighing up Hart alongside Sebastian “Bash” Croft and Romesh Ranganathan before settling on the comedy star.

Upon receiving the eviction letter announcing her murder, Hart crumpled up the scroll and reacted directly to the decision.

“No! Absolutely not!” Hart said. “No! Absolutely not! Oh bottoms! I knew it! I’m so cross with myself. I’m so cross with myself. I was wholly focusing on my Joanne issue. Ultimately, in my little personal story, this has been quite extraordinary that I’ve been able to get back and do the thing that I love professionally, and do the things that I love personally, like wandering around a Scottish island, and being in nature, and laughing, and connecting… There were times that I didn’t think that would be possible again.”

The missed clues and the round table drama

Hart’s exit resolved an overnight cliffhanger left dangling at the close of episode 7 on October 22. That previous episode had seen Ross Kemp murdered in plain sight through a staged yawning task, followed by the banishment of Faithful Jerry Hall at the round table.

During a blindfolded puzzle challenge in episode 7, Hart noted a “bouncy floorboard” sensation suggesting movement next to her. Instead of looking at Traitor Maya Jama, Hart directed her suspicions toward fellow Faithful Joanne McNally, a misdirection that left the Traitors free to pick her off in the night.

Earlier in series 2, Hart had reflected on returning to activity and filming after years of living with Lyme disease and Myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).

Viewers react to Hart’s exit

The elimination sparked an immediate response across social media from viewers mourning the loss of a major castle presence.

“Not watching anymore. The queen has gone #CelebrityTraitors,” one viewer wrote.

Others echoed the sentiment, with another fan posting “Justice for Miranda” while a third viewer questioned the Traitors’ choice, writing, “How would anyone murder Miranda Hart. Shame on these traitors.”

What comes next in the castle

With Hart out of the game, the remaining players face an altered dynamic entering the next round table.

What remains to be seen is which player the Faithfuls will target next, and whether suspicion will stay fixed on Joanne McNally or pivot toward Maya Jama as the turret’s moves start catching up to the Traitors.
