Academy Museum Gala 2026 Taylor Swift red carpet dazzled but divided fans
Her custom icy-blue Dior gown commanded attention in Los Angeles, but social media reactions quickly shifted into an intense styling debate.
Taylor Swift arrived at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles on Saturday evening, October 17, 2026, marking her first appearance at the annual Academy Museum Gala. According to reports from Us Weekly, Just Jared, and Elle, the singer led red-carpet arrivals in a custom strapless, pale icy-blue pleated Dior ballgown designed by Jonathan Anderson.
Swift’s couture gown featured a cinched bodice with a crystal bow detail at the neckline, as reported by Just Jared, Elle, and The Zoe Report. She accessorized the gown with Chopard Haute Joaillerie pieces, including platinum earrings set with 32.40 carats of diamonds, an 18-karat gold ring featuring 5.78 carats of diamonds, and a platinum bracelet set with 5.04 carats of diamonds, according to details shared by Just Jared and Us Weekly.
A solo arrival in Hollywood
Swift attended the event solo without her husband, Travis Kelce. Elle and Cosmopolitan reported that the NFL player was away preparing to play for the Kansas City Chiefs in Missouri the following day. Swift previously wore a custom Dior bridal gown designed by Anderson when she married Kelce at Madison Square Garden on July 3, 2026, before making her red-carpet return at the MTV Video Music Awards in late September.
Online discussions on Reddit analyzed the styling throughout the night, with fans sharing mixed reactions that ranged from praising the Dior gown as “expensive” to critiquing the silhouette as “stuffy.”
Star arrivals and gala honorees
The sixth annual gala brought out several major names across entertainment and fashion. Kim Kardashian walked the carpet wearing Balenciaga, while Hailey Bieber attended in Chanel, according to Bustle and Just Jared. Commenting on the evening for Bustle, fashion writer Alyssa Lapid noted that the gala’s high-profile red carpet rivaled the Met Gala.
The event was co-chaired by Steven Spielberg, Kate Capshaw, and Robert Rodriguez. During the evening ceremony, the museum presented filmmaker and composer John Carpenter with the Luminary Award, honored actor Colman Domingo with the Vantage Award, and presented actor Charlize Theron with the Icon Award.
A closing performance
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures announced on October 8 that Swift had agreed to close the evening ceremony with a live musical performance in support of the museum’s exhibitions, film preservation, and educational initiatives.
“Taylor is an extraordinary talent whose work resonates around the world,” Amy Homma, Director and President of the Academy Museum and Academy Collection, said in a press statement. “We are thrilled to welcome her to this year’s gala and look forward to her performance to close a wonderful evening of honoring three extraordinary filmmakers and supporting the Academy Museum’s mission to celebrate and preserve cinema.”
Swift’s exact setlist for the night was not officially revealed in advance, though Cosmopolitan reported prior speculation that she could perform “Blank Space” or her Toy Story 5 track “I Knew It, I Knew You.” It is also not known whether Swift and Kardashian crossed paths during the dinner or arrivals.
